11" GotGrit blank?
« on: January 03, 2018, 03:14:52 PM »
It looks like I am going to have some excess cash from the sale of my 8" SCT, and I was thinking that rather than making my 8" blank into a Dob (not much bigger than my 6") I could buy an 11" blank from GotGrit and make a scope out of that, then do something else with the 8" blank later (DK?), but I have a few questions before I proceed:
Can I grind MOT with a full-sized tool with this thin of a blank (3/4")?
Can I polish/figure MOT with a full-sized tool or do I have to do TOT and maybe with subdiameter laps to prevent flexure?
How complex of a mirror cell would I need for this thin of a blank?
Is distortion/flexure during grinding/polishing less of a problem with a shallower sagitta? I would probably be aiming for f/6-f/7 anyway.
