6" f/5 Newtonian - for real this time
« on: January 09, 2018, 09:45:21 PM »
DAVIDG was kind enough to give me a very nice pre-generated 6" f/5 Pyrex blank at Stellafane (thanks again!) so that I could make a 6" f/5 mirror. I had intended for my first mirror to be an f/5 but I ran out of grit and decided that it'd be easier to parabolize at f/8. The f/8 mirror has just finished polishing and will not become a scope. Since it's almost done I've started preparations for the f/5.

This mirror (it'll probably become slightly faster than f/5 after fine grinding) will definitely be built into a scope. I plan on making it into a trackball scope like Pierre Lemay's.
