This is the carry case for an 8" Dobsonian OTA.

As to padding, you can add foam or a blanket or whatever you like if you feel the need for extra padding.

Other things that could serve as shipping or travel cases:

Hard shell golf bag - 51 x 14 x 13 inches external. Should fit a 45X10" tube of an 8" scope.

After the discussion here:
https://www.cloudyni...on-skyquest-45/

One person told me to get a bigger telescope than two of the scopes I listed in that thread, specifically an 8-inch dobsonian.
I found out that the person was a year younger than me, yet he can carry an 8-inch scope.

The reason I'm asking this is because I'm generally not that strong. That's why one of my biggest worries when buying a telescope is whether or not I could carry it. (One thing I know though, is I can carry my cpu tower with parts.)

So, can a 14 year old carry a 8 if not, 6-inch dob?

I suspect you are referring to me.

I can carry my 8" easily.

I have an astronomy friend who is also 14 who has a Orion XT8i, and he can carry it.

Another question:

Is it possible to bring an 8-inch Dobsonian to a plane without being damaged by baggage<strike>throwers</strike> handlers? I really want to avoid the costs of shipping to mg country.

My opinion? No. Airline baggage handling is not kind to baggage designed for it, and much less so to a telescope. Those handlers are on a tight schedule, and they are slinging stuff around with no concern about your stuff... none... nada... they do NOT know how to spell "Fragile"...

And it will not meet the requirements for carry on. Even if you could buy it a seat, and I don't think you can, the cost would likely be the same as shipping it. And even if you could, the bulk of the darn thing would be a problem, not only to the one bringing it, but to other passengers as well... and some passengers are... well... not very understanding...

I do wish you good luck in your endeavor, but I would either just get it shipped, or consider a more airline travel friendly scope package/size, if that is the route you absolutely MUST pursue.

Good luck young man!

Remember that the telescope is shipped to you via trucks and possibly planes, depending on where you are. Believe me, those folks don't give it any special treatment. So, yes, a telescope can be transported by airplane safely.

Just keep the original packaging.

Could it be damaged in transport? Of course.

If you want to provide extra protection put it in a hard shell case designed for golf clubs. This should work for an 8"
