Hello Everybody,

I've been searching around the net trying to find an answer to some question I have about GOTO equatorial mounts.  I have an iOptron SmartEQ Pro using a little, light refractor typically mounted onto it.  This mount includes two alignment procedures, a "one star align" plus also a "multi-star align".  The former only uses one star to align the bracket, while the latter could utilize many celebrities.  I think, in doing my research before making my purchase, that many GOTO mounts feature similar patterns.

What I would love to understand is this: how does the use of a single star and multi-star orientation affect GOTO pointing (the ability to accurately slew to and stage at a target in the sky) and monitoring functionality (the ability to keep the target centered in the eye piece)?  Or, put another way, how does with more celebrities affect GOTO and monitoring functionality?  Assume a "regular" amount of polar orientation error for a beginner.  My instinct is that the more stars added to the mount's internal pointing model, the more accurate the GOTOs will be.  I don't have any instinct yet on how it would affect monitoring, though.

This Contributes to some more follow up questions:
What's the purpose of a 1 star alignment if two (or more) star alignment is obviously better (assuming it is)?
Does the quality of the internal bridging model affect the monitoring performance (the ability to stay based on a target) on a GEM?
Can a high quality reminiscent version (with, say, six well-centered celebrities) compensate for under stellar polar orientation or collimation of the extent along with the mount's polar axis?  Either w.r.t. GOTO accuracy or monitoring functionality?
