What are the stars in my Avatar?
« on: December 24, 2017, 07:46:59 PM »
It has been bugging me some time.  I can't determine what the stars represent.  I thought is was amount of posts but that does not appear to be the significance?   Perhaps in the event that you contribute to the website but that doesnt appear to correllate either.   Can it be like college football?  Make a fantastic play and get a decal?  Like the doctors office....don't cry and receive a sticker?

It relates to feedback from other members regarding transactions from the Classifieds

Click on your own name. It's a rating that other forum members give you.

It's the number of demerits you've gotten from the moderators. Five and you're out.

It's a ratings system that was meant for showing which buyers and sellers have a good standing. I have received and given ratings for members just being stand up people but that is not it's intent. Anyone can read these ratings, all you have to do is go to someone's profile and hit the ratings button on the left.

It's a way members can tell other members whether they have had good or bad experiences with a particular member or sale.

Maybe they could consider placing a dollar sign icon next to it or make it so a short explanation comes up when you hover over it. I joked around above, but frankly, I've been a member for more than three years and I had no idea what it meant until now. Oooh look -- I just made Mercury-Atlas.

That's what the 42 stands for Meadball - 42 Demerits!

I just sold a nice eyepiece for a good price, where is my star?
Can you award yourself a star just for being a swell person?

That's alright. It's like I say, "You lose some and you lose some."

I suppose since star ratings are a common internet sales practice they thought it did not need an explanation. Not sureabout that though. I think it used to be that before Cn changed to the new platform there was a transaction number required to make a rating. Now you can just make one about what ever you want. I know that there are some that don't like that fact.

No it has to be another member. I no longer giveratings for members being good people since I found out what they were intended for. It is a shame that the buyer of your EP did not give you a good rating. Maybe, like a lot of you, they have no idea what it is or how to make them. Did you give your buyer a good rating for the sale? If you didthat, they may be inclined to reciprocate. BTW a good rating is 5 stars, one being a not good rating. It could be mentioned somewhere about "have a good transaction, rate your buyer, seller." in the classifieds or S & S pages somewhere. Infact forall I know, maybe it is.I will do some checking when I get time. I may make a request to the admins if enough people would like me too.

I will see what I can do. They may have no way of doing that conveniently but I will ask.

That was GREAT MeadEball. You're too much.I thought it was something to do with an interesting topic you started, or something helpful you did - it never occurred to me it had to do with the classified section.

My first thought when I saw the stars was that it had to do with posts or years on CN. But a lot of times it didn't add up.

Yea, I'll give him a star.

To me it's no big deal. I would only suggest that if the rating is limited to transactions that it should be located in the classified section only - if at all possible. Because as part of your avatar, many of the newer members might think, as I did, it's about something more broad in scope, having to do with achievements of some kind.

Thanks.
