Um, Augustus, keep in mind some folks (your parents, perhaps?) might be expecting you to, you know, hang out in the house, say, by the hearth, with the family on Christmas evening :-)

Weather forecasts???... right now, current conditions, mine sez mostly cloudy, RIGHT NOW... and I have sunshine streaming in my windows and if I look outside... clear skies all around...

I have little faith in any predictions... they can't even get CURRENT conditions right...

Keep looking up.... it's the only way to know for sure...

Nope. They come outside with me and hang out.

Start a little campfire outside and roast some nuts!
But get a big red filter to keep your eyes dark adapted.

Hmm, parents these days, no respect for the old traditions

Oh and it's a new moon week! Please please Santa! All I want for Christmas is a few Clear Skies!

I had absolute perfect conditions tonight. well, not perfect but way above average. Orion and Cassopia were beautiful at about 10:30 tonight.

That's why you look ahead, and when several clear nights are forecast, you either take annual leave--or call in sick.

Monday Night is showing rather clear. I will be at my parents house for Christmas with my family and it is rather dark there, so i may take the scope...if the weather continues to pan out

Well, Augustus, regardless of where your particular wish may appear on your wish list to Santa, I wouldn't hold out a lot of hope for getting it this year I'm afraid. For the Northeast this has to be one of the all-time worst Decembers (perhaps the worst!) that I can recall in 50+ years of observing. I had 2 clear evenings in rapid succession right at the very opening of the month and nothing since! When it does clear, it has been around 11PM, or later and even those occasions have been few and far between. This evening was predicted to be perfectly clear, both according to the weather service and Clear Sky Clock. It looked good up until about 2:30PM this afternoon...when a deck of clouds generated off the Great Lakes came swooping down and covered the sky. Once again there seems very little potential of any clearing occurring before midnight, if then. Forecast is sunny for tomorrow, but with clouds moving back in around 5PM. And...the 7 day outlook suggests the same depressing situation will likely prevail through the end of the month.

It was supposed to be clear tonight, but now it's not going to clear up until 10 PM.

Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and the 26th are all clear though. So at least I'll get to try out my new gear.

Same for me!

Im getting an ES 20mm 68 degree, telrad, and a set of celestron skymaster 15x70's. Im more than excited to try them out.

It's kinda sad to know what your getting, instead of the usual surprise.
