I've been focusing on my 8SE the most because it is my newest scope and I've yet to master it (no opportunity due to weather). It is the more powerful scope, most targets fit within its FL, and having go-to opens up my possibilities. Before, I used to spend most of my time searching for targets; now, it takes less than a minute for it to do its work while I sip on a drink.

But unfortunately I think the real answer is "none of the above." The weather has been unbelievably bad, and the few "clear" nights that I've accepted turned into a mess of haze, dew, and/or misty sky

I only have one telescope.

Solves my dilemma...I do other things, like time lapse video's of the night skies with my DSLR and a wide angle lens.
And a spotting scope was my very first live view of Orion Nebula.

From there, I was caught in a whirlpool, sucked into a veritable black hole.
Now I spend my days waiting for my nights.

Due to the fact I,m cuddly and lazy(fat and older)I use a 130mmtable top dob, lives in the garden shed with a stool, just take it out and use it,D.

The most used this year has been the 16" Starmaster because the dark site is less than 2 hours away and the views are just marvelous. Also, I'm old and increasingly decrepit so I need to get all the use of that scope while I can.
The AT115EDT has been used often for really good white light solar and the XT10i gets all the outreach and runs the big scope a close race for most use but outreach isn't really observing.
I must admit that I really do love that big scope.

Most - well it really depends on the target and where I am.

Visual
Dark sky trips - easily my 4.5" apo. It's not too big a deal to move around and produces excellent images.

Shallow Space from home - mostly my TOA150.

Deep Space from home - LX200/12 adapted for EAA at f/3.3. Believe it or not, this was once my dark sky scope and was dragged all over the countryside.

Least used
Probably my Borg 60ED. It's a decent scope but I've only taken it on two fly-in trips. It's now relegated it to being a finder / guide scope for the TOA. I'm also disappointed with the amount of use I give my Solarmax 60. I suppose this is more a measure of available hours than of flagging interest.

I use my Orion AstroView 6 on an EQ mount most of the time. If I am traveling or camping, my AWB OneSky, a 5 inch f/5 reflector on an orginal vixen polaris in alt-az mode.

6 inch is my biggest aperture and I can set it up and tear it down in less than 5 min

I have four nice scopes and love them all. Three of them are nice 5-inch refractors and the fourth is my little TEC 6 MCT.

The one that is getting the most use is the little TEC Mak, because it is the lightest. The FS-128 is a close second - also because of its weight.

My wonderful TEC 140 refractor is getting the least amount of use, simply because it is heavy and I feel the effects the next morning. It hurts because over the past eight years, I used this scope a lot more than any other scope I owned.

Sad to say, I might have to downsize some more.

Cheers,

Ron

4" Apo gets the most use from me because it is light, easy, capable, and zero hassle (it is on an alt-az). If I come across a target where I want a little more punch, then I go to my 6" Apo. Again, on an alt-az mount so not really much of a hassle. Scopes I use the least are my 80 Apo and my 10" Dob. 80mm just falls below a threshold for me and does not satisfy nearly as much as the 102mm. The 10" is a complete hassle being heavy, awkward, and thermally unstable during winter so never gives as nice of a star point as the Apos.

For binoculars I have 7x35s, 8x42s, and 12x50s. For astronomy purposes (scanning and target acquisition) by far the 8x42s get used the most. 7x35s a little too weak and 12x50s a little too big and heavy. 8x42s are also the 3D SpaceWalkers and are just too much fun for yellow zones and darker.

Already mentioned the binos, they are incredible.

Now a confession about my 4" mak: bought it some five years ago, but it collected dust until the beginning of this year! The greatest problem was getting out finding a spot, now I travel to dark places. The scope is totally manual, and on an EQ mount. Buying a scope today gravitates towards goto, when I got mine it was not as common. Now I will live with my choice, and learn to like it!

About three months a year solar is my only option at 60 degrees north. Really liked using my new H-alpha PST solar telescope in the spring, but somehow didn't get to use it in the summer as intended (read: zero times). Kind of collects dust too. But wouldn't be surprised if I started using it more regularly next summer. Our nearest star really is something.

Have been glancing at the apparently coming Unistellar eVscope, with EAA. It would contain a whole compact technology package. Only a really serious jump like that could get me to partly leave my current few devices, mainly the mak then.

The fewer devices you have, the better you can get to know them. That may describe my philosophy.

Most used: My customized Z12. My grab-and-go. Easily moved and set up. Works on everything, but I just do DSOs most of the time.

Least used: 16" Lightbridge. Longer time to load, set up, unload.

My most used scope:

These days, well nights that is, is the 22 inch Starsplitter. It lives in the high desert and can be ready to go in 5-10 minutes. The other scopes all get used but under dark skies, there has to be a reason not to use the 22 inch...

Most often used probably my 3" f16
Most time with? 8" f15.5 followed by 6" f12 and 110mm f7
When I finish my observatory this fall will be split between 8" MCT and 10" RC (imaging). Will be set up for imaging planets and visual with 8" on one pier, 10" and 110mm on another imaging while I do visual with 6" on yet another.

Least used, 18" dob.

Hello all

I'm curious about two things:

Which of your scopes do you use most, and why?
and which of your scopes do you use less than you expected to, and why?

Wow, I really don't have any favorites. I have way too many telescopes and way too little time to use them.

I really mix it up. Sometimes I field mounted binoculars. Other times a refractor or two (or three). Still other times one or the other Dob gets rolled out.

For travel lately (as in dark sky camping trips, not single sessions) I almost always bring the TEC 140 and the C9.25 EdgeHD, and either an GOTO EQ mount (Takahashi EM-200 Temma 2M) or a big alt-az mount (AOK Swiss AYO Master). Awesome 1-2 punch. I use the TEC for uncompromised image quality of stars, planets, clusters and other DSOs, and the SCT as a less tidy light bucket that goes deeper, with tracking and decent ergonomics which I don't have with either Dob.

I like each scope I have for different things and scopes I don't like do not stick around very long.

Best,

Jim

My wife and I have accumulated several telescopes over the years. She now uses a Celestron Evolution 8. Since my eyes are no longer very sensitive, I take photographs with a William Optics GTF102 on an autoguided iOptron iEQ45 mount. For public star parties, I put our old 6", f/8 Newtonian on the iEQ45 in place of the refractor.

I have logged most, though by no means all, of my extended observing sessions over the years.

Measured in terms of number of sessions, my most used instruments are:

7-inch Dob
70-mm refractor
10x30 image-stabilized binoculars
12.5-inch Dob

Measured in terms of number of hours, the 12.5-inch Dob pops up to the top. Not surprisingly, I don't bother to set up the big scope unless I'm planning to spend a fair amount of time out under the stars with it. At the opposite end of the scale, I can and do set up the 70-mm refractor in a minute or two, so it's the scope most likely to be used for very short sessions. Binoculars, which require even less setup, generally come along for the ride regardless of how long my sessions are.
