"Transform your house from dark to dazzling!"
« on: December 24, 2017, 10:08:53 AM »
One of my neighbors has arranged a set of six of these things to light up his residence, two in front, 2 in back, and one on each side.  What is worse is that he is trying to get other people neighbors interested, also, to "light up the cul-de-sac".

Just great!

IS STAR SHOWER SAFE FOR PEOPLE OR PETS' EYES INDOORS?
Star Shower lights are safe as the laser is defracted but neither pets nor people should look directly into the lens for any extended period.

Yep, but the HOA exterior lighting restrictions only cover flood lights and don't include anything against decorative lights.

Here is a link to the warning label : https://www.getstars...nstructions.jsp

Here is the warning label in the instruction sheet, make sure you give it to your neighbors.

Are they waterproof? Might be time to water the lawn, let the kids play with the hose........

Get Star Shower and douse those nasty stars out!
Some folks just want to rush the sixth extinction.

Is he aware that you have a telescope with which to stargaze? Perhaps you could start setting up your telescope at the foot of your driveway to show off the night sky to the people living on your cul-de-sac. You might get them to sympathize with you, and to start to understand the problems of such outdoor lighting and the impact it will have on the night sky where they live.

Just a thought.

This is interesting. Last night I was here and clicked on the star shower link to see what it was about. That was all. I cloesd the link and posted here. This morning I had an email from these star shower folks trying to sell me their lights. What's going on here? There's no way they get my email is ft my iPad unless someone gives it to them. That someone must be the folks who run this forum, an that is an OUTRAGE! Until I get an explanation this forum is off limits to me.

Hi Rich, I'll bet it had to do with your clicking the link. I'll keep an eye out for spam email myself, but so far I haven't received any from that company. I can assure you that neither Cloudy Nights nor its host Astronomics gives our members' personal information out to third parties, especiallynot to third parties like this whose products are detrimental to the enjoyment of our hobby.

I've tried several times over the years to get my neighbors interested in astronomy, but they are just not so inclined. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. On the other hand, they are into a lot of stuff that doesn't interest me. We click on fishing, playing golf, and watching football, but I'm afraid they are a lost cause as far as astronomy goes. And, trying to explain light pollution to them glazes their eyes over.

The irony just astounds me, choosing artificial star-like projections that don't even come close to the real thing over THE REAL THING.

Scott, I read your reply last night and I've been mulling it over. I have no reason to be distrustful of you or anyone here at the forum. However, this is either a very strange coincidence or someone is not telling a straight story. My distrust of corporate America and my having seen a lifetime of corporate malfeasance leads me to suspect your superiors are not being honest with you or me. I've never received emails from a site that I merely clicked on once for all of 15-20 seconds. I don't know the answer here, but I'm very leary and disappointed.

I thank you for responding, Scott. Please don't take it personally, but trusting companies in this new age of robber barons is akin to believing in the tooth fairy. I think I'll keep a safe distance.
