Search Light Hobby!
« on: December 27, 2017, 01:07:53 PM »
My across the corn field neighbor is collecting and playing with high powered SEARCH LIGHTS!!!!!
They beam photons across the field about 1/2 mile to my only clear observing area and into my house
I must admit he has a nice collection of lamps dating back before WW2, but he can't put them down. He doesn't believe they affect my hobby.
Agggh!!!!!

Maybe you should start a sniper rifle hobby.

Well he is also a collector of weapons of all type, I don't know what he launched the other day, but there was a sonic boom.
Some of this stuff is probably not even legal I'm guessing, but guess what?
He's the Sheriff.

That kind of stuff could be against the law. One would think at the very least, infringes on your privacy.

Why can't he use a different part of sky / field? Is he doing out of spite?

Check your state and local laws.

I am envious that you live out far enough where someone could actually have a search light hobby. Or fire a weapon.

I don't think he's doing it out of spite, but he has woods on 3 sides of his property as do I, so I guess lighting up the field
Gives him kicks.
As for his respect for laws, he is above that, unfortunately, during the dry season there was a ban on open fires. My other neighbor, had a huge bonfire, I reported it, guess where he was, drinking beer at the bonfire. Nothing was done.

I don't think it's worth escalating problems, he's just a good ole boy, he may respond better to humour.
Maybe a round of "Morse code" with some large flash lights, or large mirrors might make the fifth grader wake up a bit, lol

Maybe the county or state should know just what Mr. Sheriff is doing or not doing.

Most places I've been have no discharging of firearm in city limits and in the county at least so many yards / feet from any public roads.

As far as light, I guess they don't feel it's a bother to anyone. I live in a state and county that have law about outdoor lighting but nothing gets done about it.

Thought about starting a website that singles out people and businesses that don't follow the laws or disrespect my rights. I do know I will not purchase anything from these stores or businesses / franchises.

We don't have many laws around here and the ones we do have are not really inforced. Discharging weapons is permitted, but the one that got me was there was a family down the road with over 15 or so dogs Without rabies vaccinations, no collars, and were free to roam the streets!! The Sheriff refused to do anything about it, even though there are small kids playing about. It took about 3 years and probably a hundred calls from everyone before animal control did something.
I "resuced" a small pup from them.
So light pollution really is at the bottom here.
I think I'm going to find a large mirror at a yard sale and have some fun
