AP CP4 Help using Luminos
« on: December 30, 2017, 03:27:45 PM »
I purchased Luminos to control my AP mount without a hand box based on reports that Luminos will "initialize" the mount. I'm having problems making it work.
I can connect to the mount via WiFi and move the mount with the buttons but GOTO's do nothing. The only way I can get the app to connect to the mount is y turning off the "Set Time and Set Location" options in the settings. This is probably my source for the problem. Any users have the same issue and solution to share. There is no documentation with the app and nothing in the support section. Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

Forgive me for asking the obvious but have you talked to AP or Wobbleworks? They may be able to step you through it...

AP does not support 3rd party software. Wobbleworks only has support via email. I figured I'd get a quicker response here.

Ah. Cheers. You never know. George at AP might still be able to help... I am following along because it is directly relevant to my situation as well.

As I expected, still no word back from Wobbleworks on the issue.

Great news! The Luminos app has been updated and fully initiates the AP mounts from a cold start. I have verified this with my CP4 mount. I assume a CP3 mount with a skyfi (or other) wireless adapter will also initialize the mount. John at Wobbleworks was great to work with in finding the bug that was causing the errors. If you have an AP mount or are planning to purchase one, you have a great option for field setups without the need of computer or hand box. Not to mention, the app itself is a fantastic planisphere!

Is the fix in beta or has the update been released?

It is beta, waiting for Apple to approve.

Thanks, a new Mach1 yesterday so this is very timely. Blame me for the clouds in Upstate.

You're in Upstate? We should get together some time.

Sorry I'm late getting through this thread. What was the actual problem? I've been using Luminos with a CP3 via SkyFi without any issues. It has been a very transparent and easy to use interface. Was it the link to the onboard CP4 WiFi it had trouble with?

The issue was not "Initializing" the mount. I've tried several apps to control my mounts "without" a keypad or computer. John at wobbleworks worked on fixing the bugs in the app that were causing the problem. Now you can cold start and unpark the AP mounts with their software. Rumor has it that the folks at SkySafari are working on this too but I posed the question in the APYG and Luminos was the only app to take action and make it work.

This is all good, but now you have me wondering how I was able to cold start my Mach 1 GTO with Luminos- I mean I was doing this while the hand pad was in Rockford. That was CP3 via SkyFi, and I was picking the start position to drive from (which I am guessing may have kept me out of trouble). It's good news, and like you say, Luminos earns respect.

Rich,

I think Luke's issue (and subsequent) resolution had to do solely with the CP4. Luminos apparently worked fine to initialize a CP3 without the hand controller. Which is why you had no problems. At least, that's how I read it.

The CP3 and CP4 have absolutely identical initialization sequences. Otherwise older hand controllers wouldn't be able to initialize CP4's, and we know that they can.
