Still listed on the Vixen Japan website. Vixen keep discontinued mounts on the site but they are clearly marked that way. The SXP is not listed as discontinued however.

Recently (this winter maybe) SPhinxes have been upgraded with the new PF-L polarscope, so those with the older polarscope were likely sold with fair discount

Curious. B&H and Optics Planet list it as discontinued.

It is listed on B&H , only the SXP with the smaller control (SB1 I believe) is no longer available, the SXP with SB10 is listed...

Just to close this out, Hesiod got it right that the upgrade to the PF-L is part of that obsolescence scheme. Plus it's also true that the version with the SB1 will not be an option. Course that could change but as of today... Yes there is some stock out there and probably better get what you can if you can find it. I only know b'cuz I just got the last SXP with non PF-L from Optics Planet for an embarrassingly low clearance price with SB10 and the HAL 130 that also included an 10% one day promo discount.

Well, just to update I have to happily correct myself once the SXP arrived and examined. There was no mention of the polar scope in the ad and I did not even open the rear cap to look at it until a couple days ago. I find that the included polar scope was a new PF-L. Like getting Christmas in August. ; )

Just ordered the last of the SXPs being sold at a very reduced price from Amazon.I’m assuming it has the older polar scope. My 10-year old SXW is on its way to Vixen Optics for service. I’ll keep it as a spare. I’ve be running it with the NexSXW board for the last 5 years and it’s been great. My only concern about the SXP is the heavier weight.

You are very lucky to get that so congrats for the purchase. I only know of a couple places that have just the SX2 on final sale with Starbook. Yes I agree with your thoughts about weight. I miss my SX2 since it weighed less than the SXP and a touch quieter. It's really not bad though but I can feel it a tad when it's late out and I have to close up shop for the night. Let us know what polar scope it comes with. That was my bonus surprise although I don't use it anyway since I have a Polemaster.

Well, the mount arrived, sans tripod. I contacted Amazon. They wanted me to return it because they couldn't just send me the tripod separately. I really didn't want to do that so I suggested that they just reimburse me the cost of the tripod, which they did, and added another $100 for the inconvenience. Since I already have the tripod that came with my SXW, I'm pretty pleased with this outcome. However, the mount doesn't come with a saddle plate. So I ordered the ADM V Series tapped saddle plate, which I hope is the appropriate one for my scopes. Does anyone know if this will fit the SXP saddle plate properly? I was really hoping to try out the mount tomorrow night but without a saddle plate, I can't use it. Frustrating. It's noticeably heavier than the SXW but I shouldn't have any difficulty with it.

Nice ! You did very well and that was a similar situation for me with the saddle mount so I just picked up a Vixen style saddle mount. I have an ADM somewhere but it is for my heavier load Tak mounts so I didn't even bother to look. Interesting you did notice the increase in weight in comparison to the SXW or SX2. I certainly noticed it but was not sure if anyone else would note that as well in comparison.

I think it’s about 10lbs heavier. It really feels smooth. It has the old polar scope. No big deal for me because I hadn’t used the polar scope in the sxw in years. Did you need to adjust the backlash settings?

No issues with backlash but I had to turn it off anyway since I use a guide scope/camera and it would interfere with guiding. I also embarrassingly had a user error issue with the time setting since it shows 24hr time and when I would set it up at night, it would show what I inadvertently assumed was 9 pm which was correct for PDST here in the west, BUT it should have been reading 2100 hrs. so my initial setup time was off thinking 12 hr vs 24.
